Explorer’s Programme

Where curiosity leads, and nature becomes the classroom.

ABOUT OUR EXPLORER’S PROGRAMME

Our Explorer’s Programme is a unique opportunity for our oldest tamariki (children) to extend their learning beyond Nature’s Nest and into the wider natural world.

Designed for our older four-year-olds, the programme takes place at a local farm surrounded by native bush, where tamariki can connect deeply with nature through real and meaningful experiences.

Here, they explore winding streams, observe and interact with farm animals, and navigate natural landscapes that invite curiosity, challenge, and adventure. As the seasons change, so do the experiences and discoveries available to our tamariki – with nature offering an extended classroom that is constantly shifting, growing, and inspiring new learning.  These experiences support tamariki to build confidence, resilience, and independence as they learn to assess and take risks within a supportive outdoor environment.

The Explorer’s Programme nurtures and values a strong sense of kaitiakitanga (guardianship), encourages problem-solving and environmental awareness, and strengthens social connections as tamariki share these special moments alongside their peers and kaiako (teachers).

We feel incredibly grateful to offer this opportunity. It reflects who we are at Nature’s Nest: grounded in connection, guided by curiosity, and deeply rooted in the natural world.

The Experience

  • Tamariki navigate uneven ground, balance across logs, follow streams, and discover hidden spaces that invite imagination and adventure.

  • Through observing and interacting with animals, children develop empathy, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of the living world around them.

  • From muddy winter mornings to golden summer afternoons, nature shapes the learning. Tamariki will witness firsthand how the environment changes, grows, rests, and renews.

  • In a supportive outdoor setting, children are encouraged to assess risks, problem-solve, and step into new challenges, strengthening resilience and belief in themselves.

At Nature’s Nest, a love of learning grows naturally, through connection, creativity, and belonging.
